Johannesurg and Pretoria are two of the most popular cities in South Africa to go and study. In these two cities you will find some of the most well known colleges business colleges.

A sad story that I need to highlight is that there are many unregistered colleges that keep on mushrooming all over the two cities. What makes it worse is that the Department of Higher Education is reluctant to close down these unregistered colleges.

It is your responsibility before you register with any bookkeeper training college or business management training college, to check with the Department of Higher Education or SAQA (South African Qualifications Authority),if the college is registered and accredited

When you check if the college is registered with the Department, ask them if the specific courses and subjects that you wish to study, are registered with NQF(National Qualification Framework). All individual courses and subjects must be registered with the NQF for them to be valid.

Don't be sucked in by an over eager sales consultant. Make sure that all your questions have been answered and ask until you feel satisfied. Have a list of questions that you need to ask and do your research before you to the college you're interested in. And don't make the mistake of going for the one that is the cheapest, but rather look at how they structure their courses and the quality of their material. Also, keep in mind that the examination body for the bookkeepers is the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers. The college where you want to study must be accredited with the ICB for you to become a certified bookkeeper.
