In spite of this, it's still worth it to subscribe. I can't tell you how many times I've had a blue day, and one email changed that day for me.
2. Download an app
There is no limit to the number of available apps that you can use to learn something new, from playing the guitar to learning how to sew, or start writing poems. You can learn how to plant a vegetable garden in ridiculously small spaces, or you can learn how to manage your anger, just by downloading an app for the specific need that you have.
3.Watch a Youtube video
Youtube can be life-changing if you want to start a new venture, learn a new skill, or just need to be inspired. If you have access to Youtube you have access to a gold mine with unlimited resources. You can learn anything on Youtube. Some of the channels are really awful with a lot of fluff but when you find the right Youtube video with the information you're looking for you can start on a completely new path. The more you watch, the more you'll be able to sift the real Youtubers who really teach you new things, from the ones who just talk to fill up the time so they can reach a certain amount of watch-time on Youtube. There is gold on Youtube, but you do need a good internet connection, time and patience.
4.Start following inspirational and motivational authors or someone you admire
Social media can be intensely depressing and utterly negative but if you use it correctly it can be such an unbelievable source of encouragement for you. Once you start joining the right groups and follow the right people you can start moving out of your comfort zone and connect with likeminded people who are also on a path to success and self-improvement. It's an amazing feeling when you discover another great person who shares their life lessons with you and encourages you on your journey. It can make a huge difference when you're going through a really difficult time where you're battling, and you find someone who has gone through a similar experience, and their advice helps you to pull through.
5. Sign up for an enriching course
On most blogs they offer courses to help you reach your goals, whether you want to improve your relationship, lose weight, become fit, or just want to improve your finances, there's an online course for it. It might take a bit of digging to find the right one that works for you but it will be worth the effort in the end. And they offer freebies so you can see for yourself whether it's a fit for you or not.
8. Go for a walk
Exercise is definitely not overrated. It does release your happy hormone and energises you to get out and walk. Plus, it's free.
6. Attend an online masterclass
There is definitely no shortage of masterclasses to attend. Everyone promises to be absolutely the best and offer you exactly what you need to succeed in love and life. Some are just plain fluff and all of them want to sell you something in the end. But others give you some real nuggets for free that you can start using immediately. And it can give you a different and brighter perspective on life.
7. Start a gratitude journal
Start the day with saying thank you. It sounds cheesy, I know but this simple exercise will be life-changing. Every day most of us wake up with a million thoughts racing through our minds, and very seldom these thoughts are happy thoughts. If you can train your brain to say thanks first thing in the morning, it will put you in a whole new space. Gratitude is not overrated and it really helps to stop and reflect on all the little things you have to say thank you for.
9. Put on some music and dance
Yes, dance. Dance to your own rhythm. Dance out of rhythm. Dance like a crazy person to your heart's content as you sing out of tune at the top of your voice. Let it all out. You will feel the stress roll of you. You will either end up sobbing if you were going through a really emotional time; or the neighbours will try to kill you. But you will feel better and relieved of stress.
These are very simple but effective things you can do to change your outlook on life without even leaving your home.
The best way to relieve your stress is to spend time with someone who makes you feel good. Laughter is definitely the best medicine and spending time with real friends will boost your health and your well-being in many ways, as the research on happify.com shows.
If you're struggling to find friends or connect with people, the Mayo clinic gives wonderful advice on where to find friends and how to maintain good friendships.
Of course, these are only some of the many possible steps you can take start feeling good again and just to feel alive again. On your darkest days it is the simple things that matter the most.
